In short: Neon Compass is a free companion, made by a fan, that you can use without an account. If you contribute to the map, you agree to a few simple rules, and every proposal is reviewed by a human. Pro is a one-time purchase, sold by Apple.
1 Purpose and acceptance
These terms govern the use of the Neon Compass app for iPhone and iPad, and of this website. By using the app, you accept them.
The app is distributed through the App Store. Its end-user licence is Apple's standard licence agreement; these terms supplement it for matters relating to our service: the account, contributions and the Pro purchase.
2 Publisher, contact and hosting
Neon Compass is published by an independent developer, referred to in these pages as “the publisher”. For any question, report or complaint: contact@neoncompass.app.
This website is hosted by GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, United States. Accounts and contributions are hosted by Supabase, on servers located in the European Union.
3 The service
The app offers interactive maps, cheat codes and news about the games it is a companion to. The map, the codes and the news are free and can be used without an account.
It is an independent fan project: it is not published, endorsed or sponsored by the games' publisher (see the “Intellectual property” section). The information it presents is gathered with care, but with no guarantee that it is accurate or complete: a game update can make a spot or a code obsolete.
The service evolves with the app. We may change, suspend or discontinue part of it, in particular to maintain it, secure it or keep up with the games.
4 The account
An account is only needed to contribute to the map, vote, appear on the leaderboard and sync your pins. You can create one with Sign in with Apple, with Google, or with an email address and password. The app is not intended for children under 13.
- Keep your sign-in details to yourself: anything done from your account is deemed to have been done by you.
- Your nickname is public. It must not impersonate anyone, nor break the contribution rules below.
- You can delete your account at any time from the app's settings. That deletion erases everything tied to it, including the spots you published; the details are in the privacy policy.
In the event of a breach of these terms, we may remove a contribution, or suspend or close an account. For offensive, hateful, sexual or illegal content, the account is closed without prior warning.
5 Contributions
The map is built by the people who use it. A few rules keep it usable for everyone — by submitting a place, you agree to them. These are the contribution rules shown in the app, which you accept before your first proposal:
- Nothing offensive, hateful, sexual or illegal. There is no tolerance for it, and no warning before an account is closed.
- Write it in your own words. Text copied from the game, from a wiki or from another app does not belong here.
- No personal information — not yours, and not anyone else's. A place name is not a place to put a phone number.
- Everything is read by a person before it appears on the map, and can be taken down afterwards.
- Anything already published can be reported, and its author blocked, from the place itself.
A proposal may be rejected without explanation. A published spot appears on everyone's map, with your nickname.
What you grant us. You warrant that your contribution is your own and that it does not infringe anyone's rights. By publishing it, you grant the publisher, free of charge and worldwide, the non-exclusive right to reproduce it, adapt it (formatting, correction, translation) and distribute it in the app and in the materials that present it, for as long as your account exists. When it is deleted, the spot is removed from the map.
6 Reporting and hiding
On any community spot, the “…” button offers “Report”, to report it for one of the four reasons offered, and “Hide this contributor's spots”, to hide all of its author's spots. Hidden contributors are listed in the app under Settings › Community, where you can undo that choice. We review every report. Offensive, hateful, sexual or illegal content is removed within 24 hours of being reported, and its author's account is closed; other reports are handled within 72 hours.
Content you believe to be unlawful can also be reported to us at contact@neoncompass.app, stating the spot concerned and the reason.
7 Neon Compass Pro
Pro is a one-time purchase, with no subscription and no renewal, sold and billed by Apple through the App Store, at the price shown in the app. The sale, payment and refunds are governed by Apple's terms: refunds are requested from Apple. On a new device, “Restore Purchases” recovers Pro without paying for it again.
Pro removes ads and adds comfort and tools, which are listed in the app. It never adds content: the map, the codes and the news remain free. Pro's features may change along with the app; we make sure they are not reduced for anyone who has bought it.
8 Advertising
The free app is funded by advertising, served by Google AdMob. Where the law requires it, a form collects your consent before any ad is shown, and you can revisit your choices from within the app. The details are in the privacy policy.
9 Intellectual property
The app, its text, illustrations, drawn maps and design belong to the publisher, who reserves all rights in them other than for normal use of the app.
The names of the games, their trademarks and their worlds belong to their respective owners, in particular Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive. Neon Compass is not published by, endorsed by or affiliated with these companies: game names are used only to say which game this companion is about, and it includes no assets taken from the games.
If you are a rights holder and believe that some content infringes your rights, write to contact@neoncompass.app: we will remove it without delay where warranted.
10 Liability
We do our best to keep the service accurate and available, but cannot guarantee it. To the extent permitted by law, the publisher is not liable for indirect damage related to the use of the app, nor for content published by other users before it has been reported to the publisher.
Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have under the law as a consumer.
11 Personal data
What the app collects, what it does not collect, who receives the data and your rights are described in the privacy policy.
12 Changes
These terms may change along with the app. The date of the last update is shown at the top of the page, and significant changes are announced in the app. If the contribution rules change in substance, they will be shown to you again before your next proposal.
13 Governing law and language
These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer, you also retain the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you reside.
In the event of a dispute, write to us first at contact@neoncompass.app: we will seek an amicable solution. Failing that, the dispute will be brought before the competent courts in accordance with the applicable rules.
These terms are written in French. Their translations are provided for information purposes; in the event of any discrepancy, the French version prevails.
